Pest control and door to door have been going together like mac & cheese for nearly 3 decades!
So how in the world has door-to-door pest control sales been a catalyst for the 2-decade boom of growth in the pest industry?
Context
In 2002, PCT Online, a leading pest publication, introduced its PCT Top 100 list identifying the largest pest control companies in the world based on previous year’s revenue, and only 1 company on that list, at least that I’m aware of, used door-to-door sales as its primary growth strategy, and no companies were based in Utah (the current mecca of D2D recruiting).
Fast forward just 21 years later, and the 2023 PCT Top 100 list included at least 14 pest control companies, to my knowledge, that utilized a door-to-door program as its primary growth strategy, and 8 of them were based in Utah.
It’s also worth noting that 3 of those Utah-based companies were in the top 15 and generated nearly $650M in revenue!
What’s even more jaw-dropping is that none of these companies even existed 14 years prior!
And it’s not like pest control is a new industry. In fact, the first known professional pest control company, Tiffon and Son, was founded in 1695!
Also keep in mind that the 2002 Top 100 list generated a combined $2.9B whereas the 2023 Top 100 list generated over $10B. And that’s just the Top 100 list!
Future of Door to Door
The future of pest control continues to look promising based on projections that by the year 2028, the industry will be bringing in nearly $33B.
I have no doubt that the boom of the pest control industry has been auspiciously tied to the rise in the number of companies using door-to-door sales reps.
Heck, even the largest pest companies in the world are outsourcing door-to-door teams to generate revenue.
And here’s the crazy thing, door-to-door pest control sales haven’t even come close to plateauing! D2D reps and teams are breaking sales and revenue records every year!
Home Service Industry
Coincidentally, because of what’s going on in the pest industry, dozens of other home service companies are trying their hand at door to door.
As of last week, I’ve personally consulted 33 different home service verticals wanting to learn how they can build a successful door-to-door program.
So, here’s the thing, as I’ve created D2D programs for companies outside of pest control, I’m convinced more now than ever that door to door can help ANY home service company increase revenue faster than any other sales or marketing efforts.
I realize that this may all sound too good to be true, but that’s not my point. There are definitive downsides to going door to door.
After all, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.
Regardless, the pros are far outweighing the cons as door to door continues to make strides in everything from home generators and house cleaning to painting and pool cleaning.
